In the Bavarian press

This is an episode in the quest for Jan van Boeckel: From Holland to Bavaria

A journalist in Bavaria has published a beautifully worded and moving  newspaper article about Jan van Boeckel, and about my quest for him.

As I was reading the piece, it occurred to me how important it is that this interest in Jan’s fate is shown right there where the death transports and death marches occurred.

And I realised how crucial these individual stories are. These stories that lie behind the numbing lists and numbers. These individual accounts which give history a human face.

A human face that hopefully just might move us a tiny bit closer to mutual understanding in our volatile world.

The titel of the article is Heilsame Suche in unheilvoller Historie, which is difficult to translate as it is a very clever play on words. It could be read as: A salutary quest into a dark and sinister past. You can read the article here.

  1. I haven’t visited your blog for some time so I see I have some catching up to do. Congratulations for getting Jan’s story together and out into mainstream media. I believe this is just the beginning and just reward for all your hard work.

    1. Thank you Robyn. Wonderful to hear from you again. It is, and has, indeed been a huge amount of work. Though there have been a few painful setbacks, it is mostly very rewarding, and I got to know a lot of fascinating people along the way.
